Painting scenes in nature feels next to divine. I feel compelled to record my response to the beauty I find out-of-doors, especially elements of nature such as air, distance, humidity and light--and how these effects change natural objects such as trees, grasses or water.
The process of creating art is an endless problem-solving activity. There is always another challenge--by taking on this impossible task--in trying to learn more, and from time to time, wishing I could abandon such foolishness. Yet the drive to learn more about myself and the emotions that are inspired within me (be it in nature, portraiture or simple flowers) wins out and beckons me to make the next painting better and more poetic. An impossible task it would seem. Even so, I have come to believe that the process of making art heals both the creator and the viewer; and, that making and appreciating art are essential to living a spiritually fulfilling life. Nothing is more (agonizingly) delightful than having something to say and being caught up in the creative process of how to convey a particular idea.
